My habits app & Shortcuts

Situation ๐Ÿ”—

November, last year. I started working on a habit tracking app that I wanted for myself. Before that, I tried about 10 different from the AppStore and Web but none of them a good fit for my needs. Too picky, one would say.

I want things:

  • simple, free from distarction list of activities
  • widget with list
  • automatically complete a habit if health data has record of activity - i.e. “smart” completion.
  • generate light summary for the Jounral app.

I set on journay to create yet another habits app.

Motivation ๐Ÿ”—

After the swings of excitement from a fresh project, forgot that I was building the app for myself in the first place! Had moments of doubt that nobody needs another habits app… then I forgot about it for a few weeks.
Started working on it again in early January, this year.

Deep down, one of the motives is to solidify knowledge of Swift, APIs, frameworks and some new concepts. There is no hands on swift work for me in the current day work.

Line “โœ… Work on projects” pushing me forward!
I have 26 days current streak!

Current state ๐Ÿ”—

On the moment of writing, I have a good wokring prototype. Which almost fulfills my needs.
Shared TestFlight with few friends to get feedback. I really appreciate their feedback, applied fixes and changes.

The most painful part is testing HealthKit integration. At first, I wrote a debugging view to log data manually in the HealthKit.
Then I realised that Shortcuts might be able to add data to Health. I found Log Brushing shortcut and created Log Water shortcut.
Using shortcuts made life easier and shortened my testing time. Now I use them everyday.
Please, share your shortcuts for health if you use any.

That is all for now. TBC
